Small World

gentry boat

Yesterday was a scorcher. It must have hit 90 at my place. See us Angelinos are wimps about hot weather too.

The kids said they were hungry. Shocked, I replied, “didn’t you eat yesterday?”

Being junior smart a%$s they said, “NO!”

Don’t fret Mrs. Everett is a good mom and makes sure they eat at least once a day, usually.

To beat the heat and shut the kids up we headed to fisherman’s wharf to eat and walk around the boats.

If you love boats like, I do, walking around the docks is always fun and guess what? It is free too. I’d make it a part of the thirty week challenge but I am saving my walking activity for something much more enticing to everyone.

We came we walked blah blah blah. What you really want to know, is what is with that old boat in the picture?

Well let me make a short story long.

Back before the turn of the century in the very early 90s yours truly dropped out of civilized society to dwell in the Florida Keys. It is a great place to scuba dive, drink and put your life on hold if you like that sort of thing.

Anyway grandpa Everett had a nice little place in Marathon on the water with a little dock on the Gulf side of one of the middle islands.

They call it the Gulf  side because the Keys are the boundary between The Gulf of Mexico and The Atlantic Ocean.

Every year they host a huge offshore powerboat race. One year pops volunteered our boat to be a check boat in the race.

During that race the two big cool boats were Miss Budweiser and you guessed it, The Gentry featured in the photograph above.

To further prove it is a small world, a gentleman on the only forum I lurk around, posted a picture of the smoke from the Station Fire. The picture was taken from what had to be about 100 yards away from where the kids and I ate and on the same day.

Again small world.
